Here are links to more reputable and reliable 2008 articles by the News Media, Government and Institutions on the Side Effects of Statins and Diabetes Drugs.
FDA warns GlaxoSmithKline for not reporting safety studies of diabetes pill Avandia. Avandia received a black box warning, the most serious a drug can carry, last November. The labeling alerts doctors and patients that the drug could increase the risk of heart attacks, though the evidence is inconclusive.Sales of Avandia fell 22 percent last year to $2.4 billion for the year amid safety concerns. —– (International Herald Tribune, 8 April 2008)
Statins May Reduce Effectiveness of Rituxan® in Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Statins, or cholesterol-lowering drugs, have demonstrated anticancer activity in some patients with cancer. These drugs are being evaluated for cancer prevention and treatment for certain types of cancer. —– (Cancer Consultants, 1 April 2008)
Doctors wary after cholesterol drug flop. The study was closely watched because Zetia and Vytorin have racked up $5 billion in sales despite limited proof of benefit. Some doctors noted that hormone pills for menopausal women and torcetrapib, a promising cholesterol drug Pfizer Inc. recently abandoned, also lowered cholesterol but were found in big studies to raise heart risks, not lower them. Many doctors have prescribed Vytorin without trying older, proven medications first, as guidelines advise.—– (Associated Press, March 30, 2008)
Drugs companies Merck and Schering-Plough ‘suppressed Ezetrol trial results’. A heavily promoted heart drug endorsed by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) may be worthless, according to a newly published trial. The new trial was designed to compare the effects of simvastatin alone with simvastatin plus Ezetrol in slowing the progression of coronary artery disease in patients with familial hyper-cholesterolaemia – a condition in which a tendency to high cholesterol levels is inherited. The result was that adding Ezetrol did nothing to slow the progress of the disease. Plaque build-up on the artery walls was the same in patients who took the combination as it was in those who took simvastatin alone. Earlier studies have shown that plaque build-up is a good proxy for death rates. The more plaque, the more deaths. So most cardiologists will conclude that prescribing Ezetrol is unlikely to prolong the lives of their patients. —– (The Times, UK, March 31, 2008)
Takeda says to drop development of cholesterol drug. The move had been expected after U.S. authorities recommended late last year that Takeda Pharmaceutical halt higher dose trials of the drug, known as TAK-475, on safety concerns, (because it couldn’t prove its effectiveness or safety advantage over existing drugs) and company executives said little to dispel worries about its development prospects. It has since filed applications with U.S. authorities seeking approval for the other two — SYR-322, which belongs to a new class of diabetes treatments, and TAK-390MR, a successor to heartburn and ulcer drug Prevacid. TAK-475 is a squalene synthase inhibitor, a type of cholesterol-lowering drug that has not yet been brought to market. Had it been approved, it would have competed against Merck & Co. Inc’s and Schering-Plough Corp’s Zetia and Vytorin. —– (Reuters, Mar 28, 2008)
Merck, Schering Call on Doctors to Boost Vytorin Use. It’s unlikely they will listen. The Vytorin combination pill, costing about $100 a month, is five times more expensive than generic simvastatin. The Enhance study was designed to persuade doctors and insurers that Vytorin is worth the extra expense. The study’s failure may be used by insurers to encourage the use of simvastatin instead. —– (Bloomberg, March 27 2008)
How to monitor statin side effects. What other drugs am I taking? - Niacin, Lopid, antibiotics, such as Biaxin? What am I drinking? - Alcohol, Grapefruit juice? Am I diabetic or more than 30 pounds above my recommended weight? —– (Daily Herald / U.S. News & World Report, 10 Mar 2008)
FDA Warns on Red Yeast Rice. Red yeast rice, a popular cholesterol-lowering dietary supplement could carry some serious health risks. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning that some brands of supplements may contain a prescription medication (known as Red Yeast Rice - lovastatin) that could be harmful to your health. Lovastatin can also cause severe muscle problems that could result in kidney damage. This risk is especially true if higher doses of lovastatin are taken or if lovastatin is combined with other medications that can also create greater susceptibility to muscle problems. Lovastatin can also interact dangerously with medications such as the antidepressant Nefazodone, certain antibiotics, drugs used to treat fungus infections, drugs used to treat HIV infections, as well as other cholesterol-lowering drugs. The FDA has ordered the makers of the red yeast rice products in question to stop marketing the supplements. Consumers are also being advised to stop taking a red yeast rice supplement if it’s one of these three types: Red Yeast Rice sold by Swanson Health Products Inc. and manufactured by Nature’s Value Inc. and Kabco Inc., Red Yeast Rice/Policosanol Complex also sold by Swanson Health Products Inc. and manufactured by Nature’s Value Inc. and Kabco Inc., and Cholestrix, sold by Sunburst Biorganics.—– (News Inferno, March 07, 2008)
GAO to Investigate Approval By FDA of 2 Popular Drugs. The Government Accountability Office will look into whether the Food and Drug Administration’s drug-review process cleared two popular medications without sufficient proof of their safety or effectiveness, a senator said yesterday. Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) requested the GAO investigation after recent studies suggested that the diabetes pill Avandia and the cholesterol drug Vytorin may not lower the risk of heart attack and artery-clogging plaque, as assumed by millions of patients and doctors. . —– (Washington Post, March 5, 2008)
Statins awful side effects. I have listened to Statin-injured people who will never be able to trust a physician again and that’s a shame because physicians are also victims of statin propaganda. The stories of real people being hurt by the drugs they are prescribed by their well-meaning physicians contain narratives too compelling to ignore. - Alan Cassels is a pharmaceutical policy researcher at the University of Victoria and a frequent commentator on prescription drug issues. —– (Common Ground, 4-Mar-2008)
Nonprescription Heart Medicine: Too Risky? “The elderly fare even worse and are more susceptible to problems” related to side-effects from statins and are less likely to take them correctly, University of Kentucky College of Medicine professor Thomas F. Whayne Jr says. “OTC statin availability to patients at high risk for adherence problems has the potential for significant harm that may remain undetected until appropriate management may be too late.” —— (UK News, 3-Mar-2008)
The Failure of Cardiovascular Medication. February is American Heart Month. It is ironic that in February of 2008 several high profile human cardiovascular drug experiments have turned into disasters for Big Pharma. These findings are sure to shake the misguided consumer confidence in drugs as a mainstay of preventive cardiovascular health. Hanging in the balance are billions of dollars of fraudulent drug sales based on the flimsy argument that changing numbers (blood sugar, cholesterol, or blood pressure) with the use of toxic drugs is somehow the same as actually being healthy. Baby boomers are the target market, a group that had no trouble rebelling in the 60s and 70s. How long will it take them this time to open their eyes to the drug-induced death march of Big Pharma? —– (American Chronicle, March 03, 2008)
Tendon complications, though rare, linked to statins. The results showed that of the 4,597 side effects associated with statins, about two percent were attributed to tendon complications. Symptoms usually occurred within 8 months of beginning statin therapy. Most patients had tendonitis, but some also suffered ruptured tendons. The most common tendon affected was the Achilles tendon, with pain, swelling, warmth, and stiffness as the most common symptoms. Seventeen of the patients had symptoms severe enough to warrant hospitalization. The researchers were able to link the tendon problems to statin use based on the fact that the symptoms appeared after the Statins were started, they improved when the statins were stopped and they recurred in all of the patients who restarted the therapy. —– (EurekAlert, 28-Feb-2008)
Alternatives to the ‘utter folly’ of statins. First there’s the tiny problem of them blocking Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), low tissue levels of which have indisputably been linked to heart disease. Then there’s the problem of them increasing our risk of depression, which doubles an otherwise-healthy person’s heart attack risk. Statins do effectively block cholesterol, but severely lowering cholesterol can create problems all its own. Sufficient circulating cholesterol is what keeps our cell membranes from becoming too porous, which is not exactly trivial, given that when our cells become porous our bodies release cortisol in response to what is perceived as an emergency—and high cortisol levels of course increase inflammation and damage our blood vessels. And finally, by taking hostage the most basic of tools we have for keeping high insulin levels and inflammation and obesity and heart disease at bay, Statins can have a profound muscle-weakening effect. —– (Vue Weekly, February 28, 2008)
Anti-cholesterol drugs may damage cellular power station. Certain cholesterol-reducing drugs appear to damage mitochondria, the tiny power stations inside living cells. That’s just one of several startling results uncovered by a survey that tested the biochemical effects of nearly 2500 drugs and natural products on muscle cells to assess how their mitochondria reacted to the chemicals. —– (Chemistry World, 25 February 2008)
Randone Trasylol Litigation to Be Profiled on CBS’ “60 Minutes” Trasylol is not the first dangerous and defective medication manufactured and marketed by Bayer Pharmaceuticals Corporation. Bayer also marketed the drug Baycol, a statin drug used to lower cholesterol, which was tied to more than thirty deaths before it was withdrawn from the market, and Factor 9, a blood clotting medication used by millions of hemophiliacs who developed HIV and AIDS from untested Factor 9. —– (WebWire, February 16, 2008)
Statins And Memory Loss In Women. Dr Orli Etingin, vice chairman of medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital, and founder director of the Iris Cantor Women’s Health Center, also in New York described the effect in one patient in particular, a woman in her 40s who was unable to concentrate or remember words. They ran tests and found nothing, but when she stopped taking Lipitor, her symptoms disappeared, and when she started taking Lipitor again, they came back.—– (Medical News Today, 15 Feb 2008)
Depression Added As Possible Side Effect For Vytorin, Zetia. In letters to the drugs’ co-marketers, Schering-Plough Corp. (SGP) and Merck & Co. (MRK), the FDA said depression would be added to the section of the drugs’ package insert concerning adverse reactions in post-marketing experience. The new language also will be included in a section of the patient package inserts listing possible side effects of the drugs. Vytorin is a combination of Zetia and Simvastatin. Simvastatin is available generically and is marketed by Merck under the brand Zocor. —– (CNN Money, February 14, 2008)

Pay careful attention to Manufacturers’ Prescription Instructions to Doctors (that are included in all statin drugs’ packaging containers) . Those listed in their Side Effects warnings on these Prescribing Instructions usually represent known side effects (if they are new drugs). When adverse drug reactions are reported from users of the drug, FDA will issue supplementary “Dear Doctor” letters and Black Box sticker warnings of adverse drug reactions (These are serious warnings to doctors by FDA indicating some patients have had life-threatening experiences taking the medication) . At this stage, the risk of the stated side effects are expected to be higher and there may be a possibility of other (unknown) side effects emerging. Your health is at risk if you continue to take such drugs after such FDA warnings had been issued. Get a second medical opinion if your regular doctor continues to ask you to take such drugs - preferably from a doctor who is more opened to alternative treatments.

Statin drugs side effects 2008 latest news

What's your excuse
I was thinking this week about how many people actually know their cholesterol, pressure and blood sugar numbers.
I guess there everyone falls into one of these 4 categories
a) Those who know their numbers and are taking a statin drug or supplement like BiosLife
b) Those who know their numbers and are not addressing the preventive or curative options, due to severe statin side effects.
c) Those who know they have to do their test, but don't believe a heart attack or stroke will happen to them.
e) Those who don't know their numbers out of sheer ignorance
Well it only costs RM25 / S$19 and 10 minutes of your time.
If the numbers are good, keep it up and continue doing all the right things and eating your fibre.
And if the numbers are not so good, then you can start taking corrective action early, before a disaster strikes, causing an emotional and financial disaster to yourself and family.
So do you know your cholesterol numbers yet?. Do it today and don't delay. Ask me how to get these subsidised vouchers at Pathlab/Gribbles in Malaysia and the Raffles Medical Group in Singapore.
Prevention is a less stressful and certainly cheaper than an untimely death, stroke and loss of earnings. Will you do your cholesterol test today?

Why women must rough it
Roughing It - How adding fiber to your diet will help prevent heart disease & diabetes and prevent most cancers.
Heart disease is a critical health issue for Americans. In fact, heart disease is the leading cause of death and a major cause of disability in the US, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
Although commonly mistaken as a disease affecting mostly men and the elderly, heart disease is also a serious health risk for women of all ages. In fact, one in every three women will die from heart disease, compared to one in 30 who will die from breast cancer.
The good news is that heart disease is largely preventable through positive lifestyle changes. Research shows that a diet rich in fiber reduces the incidence of risk factors for heart disease.
What is Dietary Fiber?
Dietary fiber describes the part of plant foods that your body can’t digest. Fiber is present in all plants that are eaten for food, including fruits, vegetables, grains, and legumes. Fiber can be divided into two types: soluble and insoluble. These types of fiber have different effects on glucose metabolism—which is the rate at which your body processes sugar
Soluble Fiber
Soluble fiber dissolves in water, forming a gel in the intestines. The beneficial effects of soluble fibers are reduced glucose and insulin responses because it slows the effect of carbohydrate absorption and digestion.
Insoluble Fiber
Insoluble fiber doesn’t dissolve in water and increases the movement of material through your digestive tract allowing less time for carbohydrates to be absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, thus relieving insulin demand.
How Much Fiber?
The average American’s daily intake of fiber is about 5 to 14 grams per day. However, recommendations from the National Academy of Sciences, Institute of Medicine are that adults consume 21 – 30 grams or dietary fiber per day, depending on age and gender.
Fiber and Heart Disease
High intake of dietary fiber has been linked to a lower risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer in a number of large studies that followed people for many years. These early nutrition research findings have been borne out by countless subsequent studies. One recent study found that every additional 10 grams of fiber consumed on a daily basis cuts the risk of coronary heart disease death by 27 percent.
In a Harvard study of over 40,000 male health professionals, researchers found that a high total dietary fiber intake was linked to a 40 percent lower risk of coronary heart disease, compared to a low fiber intake. A related Harvard study of female nurses produced quite similar findings.
Another study of over 31,000 California Seventh-day Adventists found a 44 percent reduced risk of nonfatal coronary heart disease and an 11 percent reduced risk of fatal coronary heart disease for those who consumed more fiber in their diets. One minor change in their diets provided a protective effect that could save their lives.
Another strong predictor of heart disease is abnormal blood cholesterol levels. Soluble fiber reduces the absorption of cholesterol in your intestines by binding with bile (which contains cholesterol) and dietary cholesterol so that the body excretes it.
While atherosclerotic heart disease (the process of progressive thickening and hardening of the walls of arteries from fats and cholesterol deposits on their inner lining) is the most prevalent cause of death, it is perhaps the most modifiable one.
Fiber and Type 2 Diabetes
Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. Diabetes leads to heart disease and stroke. It’s characterized by sustained high blood sugar levels. It tends to develop when the body can no longer produce enough of the hormone insulin to lower blood sugar to normal levels or cannot properly use the insulin that it does produce.
Research has shown that consuming fiber can help prevent this form of diabetes. Dietary fiber slows the absorption of food so that blood sugar does not rise as rapidly, while also reducing insulin secretion. This was demonstrated in a study published in 2004 in which a high fiber intake led to improved glycemic control, along with reduction of blood pressure and serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels .
A German clinical trial reported that eating a fiber-rich diet for only three days improved insulin sensitivity in overweight and obese women by 8 percent. If a diet intervention this small can have that great of an impact, you can imagine what years of following a high-fiber diet would do.
The good news for those with diabetes is that increasing your fiber now can also prevent long-term complications from diabetes. Soluble fiber has been found to produce significant reductions in blood sugar. In clinical intervention trials ranging from two to 17 weeks, consumption of fiber was shown to decrease insulin requirements in people with type 2 diabetes. If you've ever had to inject yourself with insulin, you can appreciate how much easier and less painful it would be to increase your fiber intake to avoid the need for insulin injections.
Fiber for Weight Control and Fat Loss
One of the most alarming health concerns of the last decade is explosive growth in the number of people—especially younger people—who are overweight or obese.
A 1997 study investigated the effects of one week of supplementation with guar gum (a water-soluble fiber found in the Biosphere Fiber of Bios Life) on hunger and satiety, as well as calorie intake, in obese test subjects. Adding fiber to the diet decreased food intake, and subjects on a reduced-calorie diet reported diminished hunger after supplementing with fiber. Thus, fiber may assist in weight-management programs by promoting a feeling of fullness, decreasing hunger, and promoting adherence to a reduced-calorie diet.
Another study confirmed these effects. When overweight individuals added 14 grams of fiber daily to their otherwise unrestricted diet, they consumed 10 percent fewer calories. This led to an average of 4.2 pounds of weight loss in just under four months.
These factors are especially important in treating obesity in children, according to the Department of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, which notes that modern nutritional research indicates an important role for fiber in regulating body weight.

Proven Clinical Studies or marketing gimmicks
I met Alice last week and she gave me a flyer about a soy protein mixed with Spirulina. What was interesting was that this product was sold to regulate cholesterol disorders.
The flyer gave some small un-named clinical trials and called them clinical studies. Please don't be misled by such mis-information.
A clinical study is usually conducted in an established renowned hospital ( like Cleaveland Clinic - the No 1 Heart Hospital in USA 13 years in a row ) to ensure integrity, and the results are usually published in some medical journal, presented at a medical conference and if it shows promise, is listed in the Physicians Desk Reference in USA or in medical journals like MIMS in Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
If the product is not listed in anyone of these 2 medical referrences, then the results cannot be accurately substantiated, and medical professionals cannot rely on such information.
For example. in the Bioslife Clinical Study at the Cleaveland Clinic, after 8 weeks, your LDL will lower 31% and your HDL will raise 29%. Click here for some Bioslife Clinical Studies
So as a consumer, please be very aware of marketing gimmicks and factual information.
Bioslife is the ONLY safe, patented and clinically proven health drink, to manage healthy cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar levels. And you can prove that with your blood test.
If you don't know your cholesterol numbers, take your blood test, then do the 90 day challenge and prove it yourself.

17 common questions on Bioslife answered
Dr. Peter J.E. Verdegem, Unicity’s Chief Science Officer, obtained a MSc in Organic Chemistry from the University of Leiden in the Netherlands. In his specialization he studied the chemistry of the photosynthetic reaction center of plants. After his MSc degree, he started a Ph.D. research project studying the human eye. For this various vitamin A analogues were synthesized and incorporated into rhodopsin, the visual receptor in the retina. NMR allowed to measure internuclear distances in the receptor vitamin A ligand, and thereby a three-dimensional model for the ligand could be constructed. This has resulted in a greater understanding of the fascinating physics that happens in the visual process. In 1998 he was awarded a Ph.D. in Bio-Organic Photochemistry.
1. How serious can be a chromium reaction on diabetes?
Chromium is very beneficial for diabetes. It is an essential mineral that serves as a sensitizers of insulin. It is the job of insulin to produce sugar levels. But if it does so in the presence of chromium, it is going to do it more effectively. So, the question suggests, that people think chromium is bad in the case of diabetes, because they ask about a chromium reaction. However, it will not create a reaction, it is just very good for people with diabetes because it is going to bring your sugar levels down even further, on top of the effect that Bios Life itself will generate.
The question probably relates to the statement on the box of Bios Life, we warn that if you are diabetic please consult with your doctor because this product contains chromium. The statement on the box is there to make sure that your treating doctor knows about the fact that you are going to take chromium, because if you use insulin and you are carefully set up to use the exact amount of insulin needed and you then add chromium to your diet from Bios Life, you will increase the sugar lowering effect so you will need less medication, less insulin. This is a very positive thing. We just want to make sure that your doctor knows about it. So chromium is good for diabetics, there will not be a chromium reaction.
2. Does Bios Life have an ORAC value? (ORAC is big with the juicers)
Bios Life does not have an ORAC value, of course it does have one, but we have never measured it. ORAC is an experimental procedure that tells us how strong a product is in providing antioxidant protection. The higher the ORAC value, the bigger the antioxidant protection.
Bios Life will have an ORAC value because there are some antioxidants in the product, think of the minerals, think of some vitamins, but the product, of course, is not an antioxidant product, so we have not seen the need to currently measure the ORAC value of the product.
3. My HDL is so high that my total cholesterol number is 200. Can the HDL ever be too high? (I’ve been on Bios Life for years.)
HDL can never be too high. What HDL is doing in your body is cleaning out the arteries of existing plaque, functioning as a kind of vacuum cleaner, picking up the excess fat in your blood. Some people, Dr Jerry Bresnahan for example, calls it a crowbar by making sure that existing plaque in the body is actually being loosened up in the arterial walls so that it can be removed more effectively.
So there is no maximum value for HDL, the higher, the better. And, in fact, due to your high HDL, the total cholesterol numbers being so high are not so much of a concern. It is much more beneficial to have a high HDL than it is dangerous to have high total cholesterol. So, high HDL values are perfect.
4. Is Bios Life recommended if the customer is a teen/child diabetic?
Bios Life can be safely taken by a teen if they have diabetes. We want to make sure that they do not start with the maximum dose. So start slowly with one packet a day and keep careful control, carefully monitoring of the glucose values, because of the effects that Bios Life will reduce your overall glucose values at the time.
5. If someone is already on a pump for diabetes, can they safely use Bios Life?
Yes they can, the same thing applies that the pump is carefully set to give the amount of insulin needed for the patient. With Bios Life the fiber and the chromium in the product are going to reduce the overall glucose values, so the pump will probably need to be adjusted and we would like you to discuss that with your doctor before you do so.
6. A 10-year-old with juvenile diabetes; mother concerned with sugar content in Bios Life and how much to give.
There is no sugar in Bio Life. Bios Life has absolutely no carbohydrates, so there is no effect on sugar levels by using Bios Life.
7. Does Bios Life lower LDL even if there is no change in diet?
Yes it does. The studies that we have done with Bios Life, and there are currently over eight, have all shown that people taking Bios Life did not do anything about their diet. So they did not need to change their diet in order to see the success of Bios Life on LDL levels.
8. Can you drink Bios Life and Hawaiian Noni together?
Yes, no problem. Bios Life is a food, Hawaiian Noni is a food; you can safely add those two products together.
9. Will Bios Life absorb the good fats we eat?
Bios Life does trap some of the fats from our food that is how it works. So if you are concerned, for example with omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil, which are very important fatty acids, you may want to separate the use of Bios Life and fatty acids over a time. What I would do is take Bios Life a few minutes before a meal and take fatty acids early on an empty stomach or before bedtime.
10. Why don’t we talk about lowering triglycerides and the importance of lowering it?
We do talk about it. Triglycerides are a very important additional risk for cardio vascular disease and metabolic syndrome. This is a big problem for diabetics the triglyceride values are the values that respond the quickest to Bios Life intervention. Our studies show that, on average, 40% of triglycerides are being reduced when you take Bios Life in a period of eight weeks.
11. What makes Bios Life lower triglycerides?
That’s a good question. First of all it lowers triglycerides because Bios Life traps fat in the digestive tract. Fat of course is the direct source of triglycerides, so that is a major effect. Also, Bios Life improves HDL; and HDL is known to pick up extra triglycerides in the blood stream and remove them from the body.
12. When will Bios Life Complete be listed in the PDR?
It currently is listed in the 2007 edition of the PDR (Physicians’ Desk Reference), under Unicity International.
13. How many double blind studies have been completed on Bios Life 2 and Bios Life Complete and how many open panel studies?
We have completed nine studies with Bios Life. Some of them are double blind, placebo controlled studies and some of them are open panel studies.
14. What if you forget to take Bios Life before you eat or do not have it with you. Can it help to have it later or just do not do it that time?
The best time to take Bios Life, in order to reach the maximum optimal effect, is about 10 minutes before your meal, before every meal. However, if you forget to take the product still take it at any other time during the day.
Best time is before a meal, because fiber works best before the meal. The other ingredients being policosanols and phytosterols actually work throughout the whole day, so it doesn’t really matter for those ingredients when you take the product. Therefore, should you forget to take the product before your meal, go ahead and take it at anytime during the day; even after or during the meal, because it is always better than not taking it at all.
15. What is the difference between the double blind studies and the open panel?
A double blind study is a study that is considered to be the state of the art study today, for studying the effects of pharmaceuticals and also dietary supplements.
The importance of the double blind, placebo controlled study is that there are two groups of people that take part in the study. One group gets the real product, the effective product. The other group gets the placebo, which is indistinguishable from the effective product, only it has no effective ingredients in it. The patients that take part in the study and the doctor that administers the products do not know which product has been given to whom. By doing so you can be absolutely sure that any effect observed during the study with the active group is going to be in effect due to the product, because all subjective effects that may also play a role would also be present in the placebo group. So that is the best study design to see a difference.
An open panel study is another type of study in which everybody gets the effective product. We can then observe how strong the product is in a population based study. Sometimes it is better to do an open panel study than a double blind placebo controlled study because the ethical condition that you always have to go through before you do a clinical study does not seem as ethical if you give people with high cholesterol a placebo. Sometimes you are stuck with the fact that you have to do an open panel study. Also pharmaceuticals, like Lipitor, have done open panel studies because of the same reason.
16. How much effect do emotions have on cholesterol and heart disease?
That’s an interesting question. Interestingly the Psycho Social Dex which basically describes emotions is an important risk factor for cardio vascular disease. I believe that the Inner Heart Study ranks it at a position 4. It is true that being depressed or having other type of psychological problems may actually interfere with your cardio vascular health. If you are depressed for a long time you are more likely to develop a myocardial farction.
17. Explain the health benefits to a young, healthy man or woman, with high cholesterol levels (30 to 50 years old).
Bios Life is primarily a cholesterol optimizing product, however it has many more effects.
First of all it improves your digestive health by cleaning out your intestinal tract by promoting the growth of friendly bacteria. It controls your sugar levels, which makes sure that your have better energy and that you don’t have insulin spikes throughout the day. It lowers the glycemic index of your food which is a great benefit if you are, for example, diabetic or if you want to lose weight. It also stimulates your immune system by promoting friendly bacteria; therefore you are going to have better immune health.
So for that kind of person who has perfect cholesterol levels, Bios Life is going to have great health benefits for you.

A First hand experience with a Heart Attack
I was aware that female heart attacks are different, but this is the best description I've ever read. This was forwarded by a friend, and I want to share it with you.
Women and heart attacks (Myocardial infarction)
Did you know that women rarely have the same dramatic symptoms that men have, when experiencing heart attack...you know, the sudden stabbing pain in the chest, the cold sweat, grabbing the chest & dropping to the floor that we see in the movies.
Here is the story of one woman's experience with a heart attack.
'I had a completely unexpected heart attack at about 10:30 pm with NO prior exertion, NO prior emotional trauma that one would suspect might've brought it on. I was sitting all snugly & warm on a cold evening, with my purring cat in my lap, reading an interesting story my friend had sent me, and actually thinking,'A-A-h, this is the life, all cozy and warm in my soft, cushy Lazy Boy with my feet propped up.'
A moment later, I felt that awful sensation of indigestion, when you've been in a hurry and grabbed a bite of sandwich and washed it down with a dash of water, and that hurried bite seems to feel like you've swallowed a golf ball going down the esophagus (throat) in slow motion and it is most uncomfortable.
This was my initial sensation---the only trouble was that I hadn't taken a bite of anything since about 5:00 p.m. 'After that had seemed to subside, the next sensation was like little squeezing motions that seemed to be racing up my SPINE (hind-sight, it was probably my aorta spasming), gaining speed as they continued racing up and under my sternum (breast bone, where one presses rhythmically when administering CPR).
This fascinating process continued on into my throat and branched out into both jaws. 'AHA!! NOW I stopped puzzling about what was happening--we all have read and/or heard about pain in the jaws being one of the signals of a Heart Attack happening, haven't we?
I am lucky to have survived and recovered 90%, as I knew the symptoms. But on hindsight, it would have been better to have prevented a Heart Attack and Stroke, in the first place.
So make sure you do your Cholesterol test yearly and note that a low HDL and high Triglyceride reading, raises your risk of heart attack significantly.
Only Bioslife can safely increase HDL levels by 29%, lower LDL levels by 31% and lower Triglyceride levels within 60 days.
